Is Healing available for everyone?

Is healing available for everyone?
Health is one of the most priceless assets a man can have. Men would gladly relinquish untold amounts of money just to keep their physical, mental and spiritual health intact.

The notion therefore that there is a possibility that healing could be available to anyone who desires it from God may sounds absurd and brings to question the reason why millions die every year from sicknesses and diseases.

The bible says this about God’s thoughts on the health of His people:

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is the health of the daughter of my people not delivered? – Jeremiah 8:22

To answer the question posed by our topic, let us first establish the fact that healing is available.

Is there no balm in Gilead?

Over 2000 years ago, the prophet Jeremiah cried out prophetically with this same question. He saw the despair and agony of God’s people and cried out for an answer. Glory be to God because the Word of God provides us with the answer to this question as seen in Isaiah 53. Speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Prophet Isaiah declared:

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes, we are healed. – Isaiah 53:4-5

Notice from the above scripture that the sorrows and grief the Lord experienced at his death belonged to us but because he was made a substitute for us, he carried them. The bible also explains something unique in the next verse; our sins and transgressions were the cause of his wounds and bruises. In other words, he carried our sins by being wounded and received stripes for our healing.

The Salvation Message: Deliverance from Sin and Healing from Sickness

This in essence means that the salvation Jesus died to give us was not just salvation from our sins alone but also salvation from sickness and disease.

Jesus preached the arrival of God’s kingdom and healed the sick because the message of salvation is twofold: deliverance from sin and healing for our bodies. This therefore implies that if Jesus still saves from sin today, he also heals from sickness as well.

The book of Hebrews 13 and verse 8 records that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

We have been able to establish that the message of salvation is twofold: deliverance from sin and for physical healing. The message of physical healing unlike that of deliverance from sin is one that few bother to mention not because it is invalid but because of fear. We should instead realize that it is the same faith with which we believe God for salvation from sin that we believe God for physical healing. This is because since it is the same message, the faith required for one will be the same required for the other.

Also, because the message of salvation is an invitation from an almighty and abundantly merciful God to the whole of mankind, the same applies for the message of physical healing.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. – John 3:16

Healing is available for all

The condition for salvation is not ethnicity, background or educational status but faith in Jesus. We must also note that this is the same condition for physical healing. Thus, healing is available to all.

Jesus died to deliver to us a salvation package that includes life in abundance. Deliverance from the bondage of sin and the pangs of sickness and disease are just a part of that package. The duality of the salvation message is further buttressed in the scripture below:

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. – 1 Peter 2:24

The question about why people who have undoubtedly received salvation from the Lord still suffer from sickness and disease is thus a pertinent one. God himself answered it when he spoke through the Prophet Hosea in Hosea 4:6:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…
