In our post titled Is Healing available for everyone?, we established that healing is available for anyone who will approach the Lord for it. We also saw how the Salvation package provides life for man’s spirit and healing for his physical body. So, healing and salvation go hand in hand.
Now that we know that divine healing is still available today, we are faced with another question; how do we receive divine healing? After all, if we know that God is able to heal and deliver and that he is willing to do it today for anyone who will ask him, the question is how do we get it? Not everyone who believes that divine healing is still available today actually walks in divine health. This is a sad truth is many people know its available but just don’t know how to get it. So, lets explore how to receive divine healing from God.
Step 1: Recognize that it is not God’s will for you to be Sick
When God created man in Genesis 2, he was perfectly healthy because he was created in the image of God. Gods original plan has always been for man to be healthy in his spirit, soul and body. John the apostle reiterated the will of God in his third epistle:
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. – 3 John 1:2
This means that sickness, disease and infirmities are not gifts from God. They are not God’s will for us and as such, can’t be gifts from him. Once we realize they are not from God, we can acknowledge that He is on our side and wants us healthy. God did not give you that sickness. God did not kill your friend, sibling, parent or loved one with sickness. The devil did. Jesus expressed this in His own words in John 10:
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. – John 10:10
If what you have will eventually steal, kill or destroy you or anything you have, its the thief that’s at work. The will of God is for us to have life in an abundant way; a sickness free life that is full of prosperity so we can serve God. Sickness does not glorify God in our lives.
STEP 2: Recognize that the devil is the real source of sickness
While Peter was speaking to Cornelius in the tenth chapter of Acts, he summed up the ministry of Jesus in these words:
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. – Acts 10:38
By saying this, Peter identified the source of all sicknesses, diseases and infirmities; the devil. It is not scriptural for us to believe that God makes some people sick in order to teach them something. The bible says that God only gives good and perfect gifts (James 1:17).
Some sicknesses are caused by injuries, poor eating habits or by sheer carelessness. However, we notice that during Jesus’ ministry on earth, he also healed these type of injuries and sicknesses. Thank God for his mercy! God’s healing power is also available to bring healing and restoration when the fault is ours.
STEP 3: Believe in the Lord Jesus and confess him as your Lord and Saviour
The bible says Jesus Christ is the way to God and no one can get to God except through Him (John 14:6). We must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He came to the earth, died and rose again to save us from our sins. When must believe this and confess it with our mouth. Doing this is what make you born again. The bible puts it this way:
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation – Romans 10:10
We must not forget that the salvation message is one of deliverance from sin and also of healing for the body. Jesus’ ministry on earth largely included healing of the sick, lame, blind and even the reaising of the dead. The book of 1 Peter 2:24 explains it clearly:
Who his own self bare our sins in his body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
If you have never confessed Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, its really easy to do. As long as you believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, simply pray these words:
Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe you came to the earth, died for my sins and rose again on the third day. I confess you as my Lord and Saviour right now. Thank you for accepting me and making me your child in Jesus name, amen.
STEP 4: Have Faith that Jesus will heal you
Faith is the major factor in the quest for divine healing. Time after time, Jesus told those he had healed that their faith had made them whole. Believe that Jesus can heal you and also that he wants to heal you. In Luke 5:12-14, Jess forever settled the question of whether he wants to heal his people. The leprous man in the passage asked Jesus to heal him if he wanted to. Jesus replied saying:
I will: be thou clean.
Jesus wants to heal you and he will heal you. If you believe, you will receive your healing.
STEP 5: Tie the release of your faith to a point of contact
A point of contact is any event or action that you attach your faith to for the release of your miracle. Simply put it is having faith that when you do do something (it could be anything you decide), God will heal you.
We see an example of this in the story of the woman with the issue of blood as recorded in Luke 8:41-48. She tied the moment she would receive her healing to the moment she touched the hem of Jesus clothes. Every person Jesus healed had a point of contact of some form. For the Roman centurion, it was the simple word from Jesus that his servant was healed. For others, it was a touch from Jesus.
In Acts 19, we see this principle repeated when the sick and oppressed were healed upon coming in contact with a piece of clothing taken from Paul’s body.
And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul; so that from his body were brought handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. – Acts 19:11-12
In order to receive your miracle, tie the release of your faith and hence the moment you receive your miracle to a specific act of faith. It could be a contact with a man of God, a phone call, or anything that can connect you to God.
Some persons have occasionally made their entrance into the house of God their point of contact. They realize that if they can come into the presence of the healing God, they will not leave the same way they came (see Obadiah 1:17). With that understanding, they go to church, release their faith and receive their miracles.
Let’s not forget that this only works when you have faith that God can and wants to heal you. Tie your faith to something now. You can tie it to the moment you finish reading this message. Believe that as soon as you finish reading this message, you will receive your healing!
STEP 6: Give God all the praise and glory for healing you.
Although many may see this as unnecessary, thanking God causes him to perfect and establish a healing. Jesus showed us how important this last step is in Luke 17:11-19. After healing the ten lepers, only one of them returned to say thank you. In his response, Jesus wondered why the other nine lepers had not come back to. All ten lepers were cleansed when they obeyed God but only one was made whole when he returned to give thanks (verse 19).
In conclusion, it is Gods will for us to be hale and healthy. This is one of the reasons why he sent Jesus to redeem us from sin and to heal us from sicknesses. Healing is part of the salvation package and as such, the same faith you had to receive salvation is the same faith you need to receive your healing.
As long as you believe that Jesus can heal you and wants to do so, you can tie that faith to a corresponding action that will release that faith and deliver your healing to you. Healing is available to all who desire it from the Lord. You will receive your healing right now in Jesus name!
Let us pray:
Lord, we thank you for your Word today. We recognize that sickness and disease is not from you and that you sent Jesus Christ to save us from our sin and sickness. We believe you want to heal us right now and that you will heal us now. We thank you for your healing power and give all the glory and praise to you in Jesus name. Amen.
