Have you ever thought about what being in the very presence of God would be like? Standing in the Courts of Heaven with the hosts and angels of glory, beholding the beauty, majesty and splendor of God Almighty.
Imagine for a moment if we could carry that same presence with us every day of our lives as we go about our daily business. That would definitely be something wonderful indeed!
Glory be to God that He has made His presence available to us so we can carry it with us daily. Sadly, when people think about the presence of God, most times, they think of a bright and misty cloud with flashes of lightening and rumbles of thunder coming out of it. However, that is not a clear picture of what the presence of God is. In a time when there are so many things happening in the world that can put fear in our hearts, we must fall back to the presence of God for stability and confidence. We must realize that God’s presence is the fullness of His person and resources. Let’s consider this briefly.
What is God’s Presence?
The presence of a King or Political figure for instance refers to the availability of that person at a set location. For example, being in the presence of the President implies having access to him, his personality, nature and also his resources; even if it is in a limited way. You have the opportunity to ask him questions that others can’t ask; because they are not in his presence. You get to see him personally and come under his covering while you are with him.
Similarly, but with greater benefits, being in the presence of the Lord means you have access to his resources, his voice, his direction, his healing power, etc. You also come under the covering of His presence because whatever cannot stand the presence of God has to leave. This is why the presence of God is so important. It gives us access to the fullness of God and the resources at His disposal.
Why we should not fear
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. – Psalm 23:4
Every time the Word of God admonishes us not to fear, it ties the confidence we should have to our being in God’s presence. In the popular scripture in Psalm 23, David said even if he walked through the valley of the shadow of death; a place which is probably where death abides, he would not be afraid. And the reason why he would not be afraid was because God was with him.
If we seek God’s presence and do all we can to remain in His presence, we have no cause for fear because God Himself will protect us regardless of what we face, where we are or what challenges us. We literally have the victory before the battle.
Jesus promised us before he left the earth that he would never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). That means that his abiding presence is with us. So see yourself carrying the presence of the God of ultimate power and glory around with you everywhere you go. Nothing is able to resist him nor stand in his way. He is omniscient in wisdom and unsearchable in the abundance of his riches. Understanding the riches of God’s presence and carrying it with you wherever you go is more than enough to keep you standing tall, regardless of the circumstances of life you may face.
The most important thing: God’s Presence
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. Fear not: for I am with thee… – Isaiah 43:2, 5
From the above scriptures, we see that our confidence in the face life’s storms is dependent on the Presence of God in our lives and our understanding of what it’s worth. David declared that he would fear no evil because God’s presence was with him. Also, in the book of Isaiah, the Lord admonished us not to be afraid because he is with us. It is even said that the bible says “fear not” 365 times in the bible; one for every day of the year.
In conclusion, it is important that we understand the value of the Presence of God and what it makes available to us. Understanding this will put your mind at ease and remove fear from your heart. God’s presence secures victory on our behalf; it delivers healing to our bodies and grants direction to our spirits. Hence, the presence of God is the key to a life void of fear!
